Lonsdale are hoping to start the season
off in style, and after drawing 2-2 in the friendly against May & Bakers,
they hope they can go one better by beating them this time. Lonsdale go into
this match with players on the injury table, and players away on annual leave.
On the treatment table are; Lee Singleton (Foot), Nick Singleton (Knee), Mark
Angliss (Knee) Ricky Glover (Shoulder). On annual leave were, Tony Enifer and
Mark Reed. Players Missing in Action include; Danny Byrne and Chris Batt. This
is eight players not available for the first game of the season!
Lonsdale
have a makeshift line-up with the oldest person in the team Ian ‘Scotty’ Scott
playing up front instead of the injured Lee Singleton. Playing in his preferred
position Captain Baker is playing in centre midfield. Gabriel takes his place in
goal, instead of the ever present Tony Enifer. Trimby takes hi place at the back
alongside Bridge. Albanian Alex makes his first start since last season at right
back. This is truly a disaster for Lonsdale as they miss many of there first
team players.
Lonsdale start by winning the toss…..again. May &
Bakers kick off, they look to exploit this makeshift Lonsdale team, but Lonsdale
do not hold up and get stuck in from the off. Play swings back and forth,
possession mainly in the middle of the park. Lonsdale get the first sniff at
goal by the ball played down the right hand side of the pitch Tez Wilson plays a
ball over the top of the defence towards Marston, but he could not read the pass
and it is gathered up by the goalkeeper.
May & Bakers go on the
attack and get there way around the Lonsdale midfield, only a once during this
half, a shot from long range out tests Gabriel who parries it, for only to see
it hit the post and bounce closely towards the goal, Was it in? No the linesman
did not give and neither did the ref no goal!!
Lonsdale try all there
might to get back into the game, but they can’t seem to get the ball back into
the net! Good passing and tackling from the midfield try and set up a few
chances, but for the lack of pace up front they do not create much.
0-1
Lonsdale go 1-0 down, it’s a shame really as the referee seems to have
lost the game and every decision has gone against Lonsdale. Players arguing with
each other and against the ref did not help matters, as centre back Warren
Bridge does what he was told to do and looks to see the ball out for a goal
kick, but as the ball rolls out of play, the referee awards a free kick. The
ball is swung over and missed at the front post by Trimby it bounces and bobbles
its way towards goal where Marku was on the line it hits him and goes into the
back of the net.
Lonsdale are furious and cannot believe that the
referee has given the free kick which has led to the goal. Albert moans about it
more than the others who are truly disappointed by the referee’s decision.
Albert looks for a way to get around this team and goes on one of his
runs, takes on two players but the third takes him down. Furious Albert gets up
and has a go at the player questioned. He has a talk with the ref, and he tells
him to calm down. Minutes later he clearly feels he was fouled again and starts
shouting at the ref, the referee calls him over and shows the yellow card, no
more the ref demands
HALF TIME
0-1
After the break Lonsdale
know what they have to do, this half they have the wind with them, second half
begins positively with Lonsdale pushing forward, May & Bakers can’t get hold
of the midfield which is dominated by the Lonsdale team
A ball out wide
towards Korogi, he goes past two players and then he lays the ball off infield
to Devoir and with one touch passes again to Baker, he lines up the ball for a
shot, takes another touch and with a superb strike hits the ball towards goal it
all but looks certainly a goal, but no! It screams over the bar and away for a
goal kick. That’s a brilliant effort, exactly what Lonsdale need.
Lonsdale get another chance once again a long ball from Alex finds Jack,
who is right by the by-line he looks like he is going for a cross and when it
cannons off the far post it turns into a chance, the old figure of Ian Scott
doesn’t react to well to this and he scuffs the shot, the danger is cleared and
May & Bakers live again.
May & Bakers see this, and try to pick
up there game, a free kick is punted towards goal and with a brilliant first
header by Trimby sees the ball go up in the air, he goes for it again but this
time he gets caught with a boot to the face, he goes down. Lonsdale’s manager
Trimby is in trouble, no wonder he is called casualty, every time he plays he
gets injured for some bizarre reason.
After Trimby gets injured,
Lonsdale put them selves into danger by giving away a corner kick; this was all
done due to a fantastic save by Gabriel who tips it over the bar. Trimby looks
at his wrist and sees u huge lump. He goes over to the ref who looks at this and
decides to stop the game, Trimby is bandaged up and subbed, and this is a huge
blow for the team as they look to get back into the match

0-2
Oh no! As it looked like
Lonsdale were getting back into the match the falter once again.
Baker now
playing alongside Bridge at the back, who both look strong and always clear the
danger. A long through ball catches out Bridge, who stands there ball watching,
he can’t make it back to goal and now it is up to the keeper Gabriel who has had
a fantastic match to save the team once again. No the May & Bakers attacker
easily rounds Gabriel and slots it home for 2-0.
A corner once again to
My & Bakers who look to pile on the pressure, the corner is gathered easily
by Gabriel who looks long towards Marston, but the ref stops the game and sees
two players pushing and shoving each other, on of the players concerned is Tez,
he claims that he has been elbowed and goes ballistic shouting and swearing at
the player and referee, he is very lucky not to be sent off.
A major
incident happened, by being booked in the first half Korogi goes down the left
gets a cross in; he is hacked at the May & Bakers player who earlier elbowed
Wilson. Albert kicks out and they push each other. The referee who has been on
Korogis back all day then decides to show Albert red!! By doing this he surely
must show the May & Bakers player red which he duly does!!
The game
finishes by both teams having ten men, and the Lonsdale players are rightly to
feel aggrieved as no decisions were given there way. A disappointing start, but
one positive comes out of this match which is, with many players out injured and
away, Lonsdale could have won this without them. They came close but couldn’t
take there chance's.
Full Time 0-2
