Boo Yoo United 2-6 Lonsdale FC

photo 1At last! Lonsdale kick started their pre season campaign with a comprehensive 6-2 drubbing of Boo Yoo United. However, it wasnt all plain sailing as there was alot of confusion prior to kick off due to Boo Yoo not obtaining a pitch before both teams arived  at the venue (Central Park, Dagenham). After around 20 minutes of negotiating with the grounds staff the game was able to go ahead after both teams had coughed up some money for the pitch.

After all the fuss before the game everyone was hoping for a rip roaring game to forget about the pre match troubles, and it was just that. with two Lonsdale players making their debut (Jack Marston and Tez Wilson) all eyes were on them especially the sharp eye of manager Mark Trimby, as well as the return of the legend that is Mark Angliss.

With Garry Baker as the new captain he strolled up to the center circle for the compulsory 'toss' and after guesing right 12 times in a row whilst on a drinking session with fellow player Luke Gabriel he was expected to produce the goods, which he did. So after Gary won the toss Lonsdale had kick off and it wasnt long before Lonsdale showed Boo Yoo how serious they were. It took all of five passes for Lonsdale to carve open their first oppertunity, it came straight from kick off as the ball was rolled back to Tez Wilson who played it out wide to right back Luke Gabriel. He then played a quick one-two inside to Mark Anglis and then played a 30 yard pass for Lee Singleton to run onto who amazingly couldnt find the back of the net and after a scramble Lonsdale have their first corner inside 50 seconds.

Lonsdale were completley dominating Boo Yoo but just couldnt seem to score, countless times Jack Marston and Lee Singleton were played through but it seemed every time the ball took a slight bobble so they had to reposition themselves and by this time a defender had dragged themselfs back to apply pressure which caused them to miss the chance, when Lonsdale did get the ball in the back of the net there seemed to be a very suspicious flag or in this case shirt raised signalling the Lonsdale player offside.

Despite all of the missed chances and dodgey flagging it wasnt too long before Lonsdale got their noses infront. Tez Wilson picked up the ball in the middle of the park and sprayed it out wide into the path of young Nick Singleton, he then cut inside causing confusion in the Boo Yoo ranks and played a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Jack Marston who ran onto the ball and cooly dispatched his finished into the bottom right of the goal leaving the keeper with nothing but a prayer as the ball rolled across the line. This goal would most certainly have pleased Manager Mark Trimby due to the fact that the three of Lonsdales youngest players all had a part in the goal and especially the fact that it was two of his new signings that started and finished the move.

Soon after the first goal Lonsdale had yet another perfectly good goal disallowed for apparent offside even though Jack Marston had run from behind the defender to reach the ball. However, all was forgoton as Lonsdale went 2-0 up through the second of the two debutants to score that day. Albert Korogi made an advance down the left flank and managed to pick out Tez Wlson around 25 yards out from goal. He turned his man with a single touch and unleashed an unstopable strike with his left peg into the bottom left corner of the goal. The keeper tried in vien to keep the effort out by getting a hand to it but the shot was just too powerful for the young keeper and the ball smashed into the back of the net.

There was a rare occasion where Boo Yoo managed to get the ball up the other end but nothing really notable happend apart from a world class tackle by Gary Baker denying the Boo Yoo player an oppertunity to whip in a cross for the home side. Luke Gabriel was shadowing the man running down the left wing and was ready to launch his body infront of any cross that might be played in only for the sight of the orange boot of Gary Baker to fly from absolutely no where, wrap his leg around the player and cleanly win the ball which enfruiated the Boo Yoo player claiming that Gary had not won the ball even though it near enough went off in the opposite direction he was running. So at half time Lonsdale were 2-0 up even though they should have been at least 4-0 up due to the disallowed goals.

The second half saw a change in the Lonsdale ranks, goalkeeper Tony Enifer made way for Scott Newman to make his first Lonsdale appearance. Lonsdale picked up the second half where they left off but there was someting different about the side there seemed to be complacency in the air. Despite this Lonsdale still dominated the game and it wasnt too soon before Lonsdale were 3-0 up. It all came about after a Nick Singleton won and then promtley took a Lonsdale corner. As the ball came across Gary Baker was shoved to the ground and there came calls for a penalty. However, these were quickly dismissed by cover refferee and ironicly Lonsdales manager Mark Trimby. The ball then missed everyone in the box and Luke Gabriel went to retrieve it, he then layed the ball back for Freddy Marku to fire and unbelievable strike goalbound which was interupted by a Boo Yoo player raising his arms to 'protect his face'. Up steped Jack Marston who gave the keeper the good old fashion 'look left place right' to send Lonsdale into cruise control.

After the third goal Lonsdale seemed to take their foot off the pedal for ten to fifteen minute spell where Boo Yoo started to create a few more chances. Lonsdales complacency was starting to set in and it wasnt long before they were punished for it. After a long ball over the top Gary Baker and Luke Gabriel both went for the same ball without either player calling for it which resulted in them both in a heap on the floor. However, the ball bounced on through to young goalkeeper Scott Newman who seemed to have the situation under control, then amazingly with the ball roughly five feet off the floor young Scott decided to try and kick the ball clear instead of catching it. The result was a complete air shot and a Boo Yoo player having the simplist of finishes.

The goal seemed to be a shock to the system for Lonsdale who started to knuckle down again, they started to create more and more chances but like in the first half those chances were easily squandered. The game never looked like being turned on its head but with Lonsdale wasting oppertunities it was always a possibility. But with Lonsdale still pressing, a fourth was never far away and it came via Jack Marston to complete his hat trick on his Lonsdale debut. Tez Wilson obtained possesion in the middle of the park and spotted the run of Marston. Wilson then played a delightful ball over the top which Marston latched onto. Then showing everyone exactly why he seems to be a great signing for Lonsdale he took on two players leaving them bemused and slotted the ball home into the bottom right corner.

After the fourth goal Boo Yoo started to ralley they still believed they could get a result from the match and were rewarded for there persistance. Right back Luke Gabriel got caught in possesion when trying to trick his way out of defence instead of ensuring the ball was played up the park and was clinically punished. After gaining poossesion Boo Yoo whiped in a cross that was met with a thunderous strike which rattled back off the bar. With Scott Newman confused as to where the ball was Boo Yoo followed up the shot to nod the ball home from close range.

Lonsdale were once again in cruise control and soon after Jack Marstons hat trick Lonsdale had their fifth of the game. It came about after last seasons top scorer Lee Singleton finally converted a chance after missing so many in the first half. Mark Anglis played a beautiful ball over the Boo Yoo defence which Jack Marston ran onto, with screems to 'hit it first time' Jack ignores the cries and pushes for the byline. Using the old 'Cruyff turn' the Boo Yoo defence were bamboozled. Jack then duley layed the ball across the six yard box for Lee Singleton who was last seasons top scorer to cooley slot home after a little shimmy that left the Boo Yoo keeper on his backside.

With the score at 5-2 and the game in the last few minutes one more goal would be scored. It came via the penalty spot and who else should take it but the ever present goal threat of...Tony Enifer?!? Yes! Lonsdales first choice goalkeeper had the chance to score from 12 yards. Lee Singleton won the penalty after Albert Korogi played him in. Lees pace suprised the Boo Yoo keeper who panicked and came out flailing. He completley took out Lee Singleton and Tony slotted the ball home with a very impresive penalty.

So it all finished 6-2 to Lonsdale and after Lonsdales first game for more then 2 and a half months it wasnt a bad showing. Indeed there were many positives but there also were some negatives which are expected after the first game back. Lonsdale now have a week to iron those problems out before they face fellow Corinthian Division Two side May & Bakers Res.
