At last! Lonsdale kick
started their pre season campaign with a comprehensive 6-2 drubbing of Boo Yoo
United. However, it wasnt all plain sailing as there was alot of confusion prior
to kick off due to Boo Yoo not obtaining a pitch before both teams
arived
at the
venue (Central Park, Dagenham). After around 20 minutes of negotiating with the
grounds staff the game was able to go ahead after both teams had coughed up some
money for the pitch.
After all the fuss before the game everyone was hoping for a rip roaring game to forget about the pre match troubles, and it was just that. with two Lonsdale players making their debut (Jack Marston and Tez Wilson) all eyes were on them especially the sharp eye of manager Mark Trimby, as well as the return of the legend that is Mark Angliss.
Lonsdales pre-season continued its
magnificent form, by managing to rescue a draw from being 2-0 down to league
counterparts May & Bakers Res. After impressive debuts Jack Marston and Tez
Wilson, there were mixed fortunes for both players Jack kept his place in the
starting line up while Tez had to settle for a place on the bench. Lonsdale
welcome back now married man James Devoir, and there was also a place for new
summer signing Danny Byrne.
First half began as it did last week Lonsdale came flying out of the blocks ready for war! Early
possession and movement gave Lonsdale the edge, not many chances were created,
this game was certainly up to the midfield, and whoever won that would surely win
the match!
Lonsdale faced there
toughest test last Sunday when they faced Premier side Morfdown Elect in a
pre season friendly. They went into the game without new striker Jack Marston as
well as Mark Angliss ruled out after picking up an injury against May &
Bakers Reserves last week. This ment that Tez Wilson started up front and Mark
Reed came into the middle of the park where he impressed last week with his two
goal haul to pull Lonsdale back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.Looking at the opposition they were all young players and they boasted a very tall side which looked as though could cause the comparitivly smaller Lonsdale outfit a few problems especially with their tendancy to not be able to defend a long ball without panicking. So with a couple of star players out and the prospect of playing a tall side who are two divisions above them Lonsdale went about the game as they would any other, and that was without fear of the opposition and play the game how they know best.
